Since 1393, the Bleiburg Fair Jormak —
the largest and oldest folk festival in South Carinthia —
has been a place of encounter.
Amidst excellent fair weather and with thousands of visitors in attendance, Martin Pečar (Chairman of the Alpe-Adria-Zentrum AACC) and Stefan Lesjak (Secretary General) used the traditional Bleiburg Wiesenmarkt as an opportunity for numerous friendly encounters and conversations with friends, political representatives, mayors, and business leaders from across the entire Alpe-Adria region.
The personal exchange of views with Mayor Daniel Wrießnig and City Councilor Marko Trampusch was particularly cordial.
In addition to Carinthian Governor Daniel Fellner and Croatian Ambassador Daniel Glunčić, numerous other guests and friends visited the Alpe-Adria tent at the fair. Among them were Teja Jelina (Deputy Mayor of Brda), Silvestra Elen Brašnić Saffigna (Municipal Councilor), Franz-Josef Smrtnik (Member of the Carinthian Parliament), Martin Kulmer (Mayor of St. Veit/ Glan), and many others.
The Bleiburg Wiesenmarkt Jormak thus once again demonstrated what defines the Alpe-Adria region: personal encounters, cross-border friendships, and a lively exchange among people, municipalities, the business community, and the political sphere.
In the Bleiburg Wiesenmarkt’s 633-year history, records show that the fair could not be held in only four years: 1715, 1716, 2020, and 2021. It was banned in 1715 and 1716 due to the plague, and had to be cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
