The President of the European Council Donald Tusk presented on Wednesday, March 7th 2018 in Luxembourg the basic guidelines for the negotiations with Great Britain regarding
the future relations. Since the British government intends to exit also from the inner market and the customs union, the only remaining possibility is a conclusion of a normal free trade agreement.
Therefore however the future trading relations will be more complicated and expensive.
Tusk suggested EU27 to concentrate upon a trade agreement, which would include all sectors as well as services and would not foresee any customs duties on goods. Additionally he stressed that EU would protect its inner market and would allow no „picking of golden eggs „ in the aspects of economy.
In this way he refused the british ideas to take in the future the advantages of the inner market and of the customs union.
On Friday, March 2nd, 2018 Theresa May namely expressed such wishes. The negotiations with Great Britain could so begin, while the agreement can be negotiated only after the Brexit is actually implemented.
