The minority school system, the nomination of directors in the bilingual schools and further offers for teaching minority languages were focal points, that the president of the SKS and the AACC Mayor Bernard Sadovnik discussed these days in conversation with Minister of Science Heinz Fassmann.
Immediately after the announcement of the new turquoise-blue Austrian coalition government, which received its official legitimacy last year on December 18th, the organization of the Carinthian Slovenes SKS informed in writing all members of the government about the Slovene minority issue and at the same time requested personal talks. The first invitation came from the Ministry of Science, Education and Research. President Bernard Sadovnik therefore met on Monday, April 20th in Vienna Minister Heinz Fassmann (ÖVP). He informed the minister about the minority problem in education and training. Sadovnik sees the meeting not as a solo action, but as an additional, useful lobbying in minority issues. SKS wants to continue its work as a representative organization and an appointment has already been made in the Ministry of Interior.
On the same day Sadovnik also met with the State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior Karoline Edtstadler (ÖVP). During this conversation he referred to the problem of border controls from the perspective of the minority. He also referred to the desire to include public bilingual place names in the issuance of personal documents, if the data subject so desires.
