The Plenum of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) counts more than 300 members and has up to six plenary sessions per year. However- how is the President of the CoR elected and what are his functions?
The Presidium of the CoR is composed of the president, first vice president, one vice president per each member country, 25 further members and the presidents of the fractions. For Austria 2 representatives are foreseen. The presidium is elected at the General Assemby for the period of two and half years. The main tasks of the presidium are to prepare the political program of the CoR. Additionally the presidium coordinates the activities of the plenary assembly and of the professional commissions.
The tasks of the President of the CoR are primarily in the leading of the CoR and in the presentation of the gremium in relation to foreign affairs. Hereby he has the support of the vice-president and also of the secretary general , who is however not a member of the presidium. The President of the CoR is from mid of this year Alves Vasco Cordeiro from the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
The delegation of the Republic of Slovenia is led by the Mayor of the Municipality Slovenska Bistrica dr. Ivan Žagar. Carinthia is represented by its councellor dr. Peter Kaiser.
