On May 9th we celebrate the Europe Day, a symbolic occasion, which stands for piece and unity in Europe. It is 74 years since the idea of a transnational European institution was for the first time openly announced. This idea built the basis for the today‘s European Union.
The Europe Day is celebrated every year from 1986 on to remember this historical event and to appreciate the common values of the European Union. In all Europe there are numerous events, discussion rounds and celebrations in order to emphasise the superior goal of ensuring peace, liberty and prosperity.
The Europe Day was also celebrated in Klagenfurt on Neuer Platz.
This year the celebrations of the Europe Day were held before the background of the approaching EU elections. This stresses the importance of the EU for its citizens and reminds , that every vote is important for the layout of our mutual future.
The Europe Day on 9th May is therefore not only an occasion to appreciate the milestones of the EU. In reference to the coming European votes it is very important that we all use our votes to shape actively the future of Europe.
