Three new European Capitals of Culture

More culture through more Europe. As of 1st January 2022, three second biggest cities will hold the title  of „European Capitals of Culture“: Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourg), Kaunas (Lithuania ) and Novi Sad (Serbia ). The three different cities are awaiting with very interesting programmes and have a lot to go over.

Following the leitmotiv „REMIX Culture“,  Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg‘s second biggest town presents its unique industrial tradition and wants to establish a center of knowledge, orientated into the future, and to develop innovative and creative technologies.

Kaunas expects the cultural  capital year 2022 with 40 festivals, 60 exhibitions, more than 250 cultural events and an impressive participating approach. The second biggest city in Lithuania wants to draw its  attention on the European scene and  is following the focus to bring the utmost possible number of the  people in contact with culture through a low level threshold offer.

Initially planned for 2021, however  postponed due to Coronavirus , Serbia‘s  second biggest town, Novi Sad, prepares its cultural  year 2022, with the wish to  develop further  its creative potential. This includes the building of a forward looking  identity of the town, which is located on the Danube , as well as the revival  of the existing cultural heritage  and the creation of a new cultural infrastructure.
