The EU-Commission will provide the amount of 1,5 billion euros for 2022 for humanitarian crises in order to help those most affected worldwide.
On Monday, 17th January 2022 the Commission adopted its initial annual humanitarian budget of 1,5 billion euros for this year. . 469 million euros will be allocated to Sub-Saharan Africa to support those suffering from the food and nutrition crisis exacerbated by confllict in the Sahel and those displaced by violence.
351 million euros of EU funding will be allocated for needs in the Middle East and North Africa with the main task to address the crisis in Syria.
The EU-Commission will fund projects in Southeast Europe and the European neighbourhood addressing crises in Ukraine, Western Balkans and the Caucasus , as well as the effects of Syria crisis in Turkey.
188 million euros will continue to help the most vulnerable populations in Asia and Latin America. The remaining 370 million euros will be used for unanticipated crises or sudden peaks in existing crises.
Funding will also help vulnerable inhabitants in disaster exposed countries to prepare for various natural hazards as well as their consequences.
Across all regions 10% of the funding will be distributed to education in emergencies to enable children and youth to continue their schooling also in extreme situations.
