Nowadays there are a lot of discussions in the whole Europe about the Brexit and the possible financial consequences for the remaining 27 EU countries. This was also a theme of the last session of the European Commitee of the Regions in Bruxelles. As a member of the Commitee dr. Peter Kaiser used the opportunity to stress the importance of unchanged subventions for the future development of the European regions – at the session itself and also in a personal discussion with the European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu from Romania.
»Europe is at the crossway. We have to decide together, what and where do we want to go. I am firmly convinced, that for all of us one positive future is only in a stronger and more solidariy European Union, and not in today‘s always stronger appearing nationalisms and egoisms«, so Kaiser.
»The financing for it and for the further development of the European regions, as also Carinthia is, must be solved quickly. The gap, left behind the Brexit, should be closed, and the more yearly financial plan 2021-2027 should be so conceived, that regions such as Carinthia will not lose anything«, reminded Governor Kaiser.
The State Governor however warned also about the unequal distribution of financial funds: »It can not and should not happen, that for instance agricultural subventions for hundreds and thousands hectares big companies are left untouched, while means from the Funds for Regional Development are planned to be restricted.«
All necessary steps should be taken, so that the future more yearly financial frame will ensure a firm confirmation to a mutual Europe.
