Stefan Karner presented his new book »Gauleiter Uiberreither« in the hall of the Carinthian state archive on 24th April, 2025.
This year all Europe is in the sign of remembrance – 80 years passed from the liberation of the nacist
regime and from the establishment of the democracy in Europe. In the frame of this memorial year
special contents, focused on the „Culture of remembrance“ were set in Carinthia. They are especially
orientated to young generation, so that it can achieve the possibility of critical arguments with the past and
face with the plurality of memories.
For some Gauleiter Uieberreither was dead, the others thought he fled to South America. In reality Siegfried Uieberreither in 1947 managed to escape from the American prison in camp Dachau, before Tito was able to trial him for his crimes in Styria and the territory of Slovenia at the court-martial. Uieberrleither was received by a factory owner in Sindelfingen, he lived there unidentified almost for 40 years long. This book now tries to describe both his lifes.
