The EU is looking towards Latin America considering the actual geopolitical challenges. The new agenda for the EU relations with Latin America and Caribbean should strengthen and modernise the strategical partnership with this region on the fields of politics, trade and innovations.
The Commission presented the new agenda for the relations of the EU with Latin America and Caribbean. Central is the presentation of a strategical document of one high representative for foreign and security politics, which emphasises the importance – considering the increasing geopolitical challenges – of the access to the raw materials and resources of Latin America. Especially in this connection should therefore the EU consider the conclusion of the ten years lasting negotiations to reach a trade agreement with South American Mercosur-Block as priority.
The new EU agenda shows ambitions to deepen the relations with the whole region Latin America and Caribbean. The EU considers this region as a natural partner with strong historical, cultural and economic connections.
