EU- Western Balkans summit in Slovenia: discussion about enlargment perspectives

 

The Eu- Western Balkans Summit had on Wednesday , 6th October 2021 its meeting in Slovenia, which is holding presidency of the EU Council till the end of this year. Its main thema was the EU enlargement strategy of the Western Balkans countries, however the opinions of the Presidents and Prime Ministers  were party much apart.  France for instance  expressed its opinion against new accesses in this moment.

The Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has even before the summit proclaimed, that it is necessary to offer the Western Balkans countries a correct strategy for accession . In reference with the constantly growing political and economic influence of Russia, China and Turkey is the access of the Balkans countries  a must for safety and stability in Europe.

In her speech the President of   the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen described Western Balkans as a part of Europe and as such already a part of the EU. In the future she will endeavour that the EU Commission continues  with the enlargement process and the integration of Western Balkans countries. The emphasis will also be on the development of the common regional market.
