Euro will be 25

On 1st January 1999 the eleven EU member countries introduced the Euro as a common currency. Today, 25 years later, the Euro makes the life of 350 million people in 20 countries easier and is a symbol of European unity and stability.

The idea of a common currency resulted from the wish to overcome common challenges. After the second world war it was clear that only the unity of national economies can ensure long lasting peace. The Euro became reality 25 years ago and is today firmly anchored in our everday life.

In spite of successes is Europe in front of new challenges.

The people in Europe see the challenges and believe in the strength of unity. The next steps furthermore demand ambition and persistence, coming from the trust that Europe is able to provide the answers to the challenges of today and tomorrow.
