European Council of the Regions and EU-Commission together for stronger EU-regions

On Tuesday, 25th January  2022, the President of the European Council of the Regions (CoR ) Apostoles Tzitzikostas, EU- Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Fereira and the Chair of the CoR Commission for Cohesion policy and EU-budget Nathalie Sarrabezolles signed a joint action plan for the cooperation of the Council with the EU-Commission on the field of the cohesion policy. According to the plan both institutions will unite their activities in order to ensure  all EU-regions to the greatest extent possible  500 billions eur at cohesion investments. The basic aim is to support local and regional authorities  in rational usage of cohesion funds from EU-structural funds and from national co-financing.. The joint action plan includes five priority areas of the  cooperation between CoR and EU-Commission and defines strategical goals for the current 2021-2027 budget period. The five priorities include  the support of  the authorities at managing  EU-funds, promotion of  cohesions as a fundamental value for EU-policy, strengthening of synergies and omitting  of overlapping among structural funds, strengthening of  the cross border cooperation and  the improvement of communications on the  spot.
