The former ORF general manager Gerhard Weis died on Friday at the age of 80 years after a short, serious illness in the circle of his family. With Gerhard Weis Austria lost a great, thoughtful thinker and forward-looking media manager, who has significantly shaped the country’s radio and television. The ORF itself and numerous well-known personalities are deeply affected about his demise.
Without Gerhard Weis, ORF would not be one of the most successful public broadcasters in Europe today, said ORF Director-General Alexander Wrabetz, in appreciation of his merits. Gerhard Weis stood for journalism with attitude and was one of the country’s most innovative media makers.
With Gerhard Weis, a significant personality of the Austrian media space has left us. Weis was an upright person, a good journalist and an innovative ORF general manager, said with great sadness the Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen.
With Gerhard Weis also the AACC lost a wise consultant, speaker and a friend, as well as an always combative supporter. Gerhard Weis was also one of the founders of the AACC and the vice president of the Center.
We are expressing our deepest and heartfelt condolences to his family and relatives.
