In future transnational electoral lists at the election for the EU Parliament

The Committee on Constitutional Affairs accepted on 28th March a compromise proposal, which would allow EU citizens at the next election for the EU Parliament the giving of the second vote in the frame of the EU wide constituency.

Herewith are in future 28 delegates on a transnational list additionally electable, where the voters can select with the giving of two votes – on one side one delegate in their national election and on the other side another  delegate in the EU election.

In case of the Committee‘s accepted proposal, the election boards such as coalitions of national political parties and/or national election organisations or European political parties would propose EU wide candidate lists.

The main reason of transnational lists is according to the standpoint of initiators the comparision of political visions and ideas of the candidates, undependant from the fact, where they live or from which country they come from.

In the first step the Plenum of the EU Parliament must vote about the proposal, what will probably be done in May. Furthermore the approval of the European Council is necessary and finally also the amendment of the constitutional clause in each of the member countries.
