EU-Commission has chosen Klagenfurt in the frame of the EU-Mission „100 climate neutral cities by 2030„ as the only one Austrian pioneer climate city.
Klagenfurt as an innovation center should – after the executed transformation to the climate neutral city- serve as an example for other cities. Together with the selected cities it will therefore have the access to special stimulation means, which are formed in the value of about 360 million Euros. Financial fund for this project derives from the EU Research Program Horizon Europe.
Innovations should start now in Klagenfurt and a joint plan is to be prepared, which should involve the climate neutrality in all the sectors- as for instance energy, buildings, traffic and waste economy. This process will include citizens, research institutions and also private sector. Furthermore there is the possibility for Klagenfurt to establish new partnership relations with the other 99 selected cities (f.i. Brussels, Barcelona, Paris, Copenhagen, Stockholm or Rome).
