Every year on March 8th we celebrate International Women’s Day

 

The Women’s Day (IWD) is an international women’s holiday, which is celebrated in about 100 countries every year on March 8th. We need to know, that everywhere is not as in Europe and that in many countries women are subordinate to men.

IWD originates from labor movement and is declared by the United Nations as a global annual event.
Its beginning goes back to the year 1908, when 20.000 women marching through New York requested shorter working hours, better payment and the right to vote. One year later the American Socialist Party announced the first national Women’s day.

Women finally got the voting right and the beginning of equality with men in 1945, when the general voting right was legislated. Before this date only men were able to decide about the fate of their country.

Women’s Day was celebrated in 1913 for the first time in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark, however then March 19th.
