Despite global crises, the latest Eurobarometer survey shows that people are looking to the future with optimism. European citizens want a strong and present EU that actively addresses security, economic, and digital challenges. Young people, in particular, rely on an ambitious and united EU that can effectively defend their interests worldwide.
For the current Eurobarometer autumn survey, a total of 26,453 citizens across all 27 EU member states were surveyed in November 2025. The purpose of the survey was to obtain a representative picture of public opinion regarding the political, economic, and social situation in the EU and to understand what expectations people have of the EU policy.
The results clearly show that security and economic stability are currently the main concerns for many people. Competitiveness and economic strength are also central, as is energy independence, which has gained importance particularly in connection with supply security and stable pricing.
The need for security is also clearly evident in the context of global threats. Concern is particularly high regarding armed conflicts near EU borders, which 72 percent of respondents view as a serious danger.
Despite ongoing crises and uncertainties, overall support for the EU remains stable. 62 percent of respondents still consider their country’s membership in the EU a positive thing. The desire for solidarity is especially strong.
A particularly notable result of the survey is the comparatively high optimism of the younger generation, aged 15 to 30. While the overall population tends to view the future of the world more pessimistically, young people are significantly more confident about the future of the EU and, to some extent, global developments.
