Agreement about European climate deal 2050

On Wednesday , 21st April, 2021 the Council and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement about European climate rules. The goal of the deal is to reach climate-neutral EU by 2050. The European Green Deal is the basic element at the implementation of this goal. The agreement includes besides climate neutrality by 2050 also other targets: by 2030 a collective, net greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of at least 55% compared to 1990 ; the amendments of the legislation of land use, changes of land use purposes and about the forest economy (LULUCF ), regarding these topics the EU Commission will prepare its proposal by 

June 2021; the start of the project indicating an intermediate climate target for 2040 considering Union‘s greenhouse gas budget for the period 2030-2050; the establishment of the Board on Climate Change as an independent scientific board ; the obligation to cooperate with the sectors of the economy and the preparation of indicative voluntary roadmaps towards achieving the Union‘s  climate neutrality objective by 2050; stict rules to achieve negative emissions after 2050 and close collaboration of political actors regarding the climate neutrality.

The provisional political agreement is subject to approval by the Council and the Parliament, before going through formal steps of the adoption procedure.
