The works in the Karavanke Road Tunnel will be delayed

Due to the complaints of the two non chosen bidders  at the Slovenian highway  company DARS  d.d.  the planned construction  of the second tube  in the tunnel will be delayed  for some months. According to the original plan the first works in the tunnel should start within this month. In July 2018 the order for construction was given to the Turkish building group Cegniz Insaat, which was with its offer of 89,3 million Euros  the cheapest among nine applicants.

Against this decision two companies made complaints, namely the Slovenian company Kolektor CPG and  the Bosnian company Euro Asfalt.

The Austrian federal agency for motorways  Asfinag chose among seven bidders the companies ARGE Swietelsky Tunnelbau GmbH & Co KG and Swietelsky  Baugesellschaft m.b.H. with the most competitive offer in the value of 89,8 million Euros  for the construction of 4,4 kilometers long Austrian part of the tunnel. In total the tunnel‘s length is 7,9 kilometers. The planned second tube of the tunnel is supposed to be finished in five years after the start of the works and should ensure a higher traffic safety, less traffic  jams and a higher driving speed.
