At the meeting of the General Affairs Council the ministers discussed the proposal of the Commission to increase the EU-budget. The majority of the member countries expressed cryitical relation to the proposal. The additional means could be used for Ukraine. The central part of the agenda was the discussion about halftime check of the financial frame of several years ( from 2021 – 2027 ).
On 20th June The European Commission proposed one parcel about revision of the financial frame of several years. This proposal includes its increase for about 66 billion Euros for the time period 2024-2027. This proposal however met the critisism of several member countries, among them also Austria. There is no readiness to collect additional financial means, except in the case the money would be meant for support of Ukraine. Therefore the Commision included the aid for Ukraine in the total budget, which must be however accepted unanimously. Some member countries, such as Hungary, are against additional support to Ukraine and are warning they would block the whole budget.
