Catalonia: The former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont informed on Monday, May 10th , 2018 from his exile in Berlin , that he would omit the new elections for the Regional President, in order to enable the way for the formation of a new Catalan Government. In this connection the Catalan Parliament chose per his suggestion the 55 years old member of the Parliament Joaquim Quim »Torra« as the next President . He is new in politics, however firmly connected with the Catalan independance movement.
The new Regional President Torra has meanwhile invited the Spanish President Mariano Rajoy to a personal meeting, since the first step of the future Catalan Government is planned to be a presentation of an offer for future disscusions with the Central Government in Madrid .Additionally Torra plans to make again valid the laws, which were postponed or cancelled from the side of the Spanish legislation authorities . Also he plans to reopen the Catalan representative offices abroad and to start with the composition of the constitution for a new Catalan Republic.
