The Koralm Railway: A new age of mobilitiy is beginning in Carinthia

The Carinthian infrastructure will achieve an important milestone after more than 25 years of intensive planning and preparations : Next Sunday, December 1oth, the Carinthian part of the Koralm Railway , which connects the place St. Paul im Lavanttal with Klagenfurt, will be put into the operation. This important step was celebrated on Thursday with a festivity , held at the new railway station St. Paul im Lavanttal, to which numerous guests from politics, economy and local inhabitants were invited.
The new transport line brings an important improvement for the local transport in the region. It connects Klagenfurt with St. Paul and extends further to Wolfsberg. At the opening‘s event some special rides took place, they underlined the importance of this project for the community. Specially impresive are the planned shortenings of the travelling times: The ride from St. Paul to Klagenfurt will take only 43 minutes and also other parts of the railway will significanly profit from the new, efficient connections.
The importance of the Koralm Railway exceeding the local frames. It is the central building stone in the Trans-European Transport Core Network and it strengthens the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor. The new line wil not only bring a revolution to the passenger traffic, but also offer new possibilities for the transport of the goods, what means an important reduction of the CO2 emmisions.
The complete operation of the Koralm Railway will make Klagenfurt an important traffic hub in Austria and Europe. The project is therefore not only a profit for the region itself , but also an important contribution to the European traffic infrastructure and environment.
The project‘s costs are around 5,4 billion eutros and are cofinanced in the frame of NextGenerationEU and the facility „Connecting Europe“.
